Somewhat diminished clarity

With shorter days and longer nights the pond is beginning it’s expected “fall turnover” mixing nutrients from the pond bottom. Clarity in the pond is decreasing and visibility is now slightly under 2 meter (1.8 on Sunday) which is enough for all but the tallest of us to see our toes.

This exciting season has shown us that we can improve the water quality in Fresh Pond on a seasonal basis. With your help we can continue to protect ourselves and welcome guests while we work to secure a deeper (no pun!) long-term solution.

We’ve submitted our most recent test samples to the DEC for analysis.
